Pediatric heart surgeons Dr. John Calhoon and Dr. Adil Husain perform HeartGift surgeries at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Children's Hospital in San Antonio in conjunction with a team of medical professionals from the San Antonio area. All medical services are donated free of charge.

In 2006, Dr. John D. "Chip" Oswalt approached his good friend and colleague Dr. John Calhoon about the possibility of forming a HeartGift Chapter in San Antonio, thus enabling HeartGift to extend its' reach to more children with heart defects.

"The San Antonio chapter is committed to expanding HeartGift's work by providing lifesaving surgeries in San Antonio as soon as possible," Chuck Brown, HeartGift San Antonio Board President, says. "We are excited about being able to offer San Antonio's world-class health care services to children from around the world."

Dr. John "Chip" Oswalt, President of the HeartGift Foundation Board, says: "HeartGift is excited about the opportunity to bring free lifesaving pediatric heart surgery to San Antonio. Currently, only about 12 children a year undergo HeartGift procedures in Austin. Through the new chapter in San Antonio, more children from many other countries will be able to live longer, fuller lives."

The San Antonio HeartGift Chapter is guided by a 10 member Board of Directors, an Executive Director, and dozens of community volunteers. The HeartGift Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization.
